In my Initial review of the Vholdr ContourHD I canvassed technical specifications and said: “A more involved review to follow will look at the Vholdr ContourHD for use primarily in the sport of freeride/downhill mountain biking. It will also suggest some easy-to-implement mounting option modifications”. The purpose of this follow-up article is to fulfil these goals.

Paul Basagoitia HD helicopter cam

June 9 2010 No Commented

Paul Basagotia’s back yard (yes really) sessions filmed in HD from a remote control helicopter!

Trent Palmer is using the Canon 7D D-SLR with a sigma 10-20mm @ 20mm on a Trex 700e FBL heli with a Photoship One camera mount).

Very cool and I expect to see this method used a fair bit more in HD films. (more…)

Afan Trip May 2010

June 4 2010 No Commented

The video of our recent trip to Afan in Wales. This is the long version (37 mins) for us riders. It contains 90% of the downhill/trial sections of “Y Wall” and “White’s Level”. Probably pretty boring for non riders. Worth a skip through though. Next time we need trail side camera men for the 3rd person shots!

New lens could change mtb films

April 15 2010 No Commented

A new cine lens from lens maker Carl Zeiss could change the quality of mountain bike films for ever.

The LWZ.2 lightweight zoom is designed to be used with HDSLR cameras and if by far the highest quality lens ever made for such a purpose. It could easily change the quality and scope for MTB filmers if they can ever afford one!

Check out the details:

Lightweight Zoom LWZ.2 with interchangeable mount
Carl Zeiss LWZ.2

The new Lightweight Zoom LWZ.2 is the first on the market to combine outstanding optical image quality with an interchangeable mount. The LWZ.2 is a cine lens designed for use with HDSLR as well as traditional cine cameras. The interchangeable mount guarantees high flexibility for present and future use in any situation and for a wide range of camera platforms.

  • Three different mounts available (PL, EF and F mount)
  • Compact, lightweight zoom ideal for Steadicam, hand held and remote work
  • Super color matched with all ZEISS cine lenses
  • Highest optical performance despite compact build
  • T* XP coating ensures flare resistance

The Lightweight Zoom LWZ.2 is the ideal lens for shooting in confined spaces like airplanes, car interiors or elevators. It is also great when a lightweight camera is needed for action sequences, and for applications where size and weight are at a premium, including Steadicam, handheld, remote heads, car rigs, motorcycle rigs, bicycle mounts, body mounts and underwater shoots. In addition, small size and light weight afford a more efficient shooting pace.

Our first Afan MTB trip video

Ant & Mike of TamedEarth.com on our first trip to the MTB centres in the South Wales Afan Forest Park.

Two trails – “The Wall” and “Whites Level”. We only filmed the down as each had a greulling 500 meter plus climb at the beginning.

The camera batteries ran out only a third of the way down on day two at White’s… a real shame!

    Next time.
