2012 Marzocchi Gravity Forks

August 2 2011 No Commented

Bologna, July 29th, 2011 – When it comes to gravity mountain biking, we were the first to create a fork that was suited perfectly to all the stress riders were putting it through. We’ve put in our time and with years and years of experience, research and development, blood and sweat, we have come a long way since then. For 2012, we bring you some of the best gravity mountain bike forks on the market that combine minimum weight with maximum performance and durability in a price range that doesn’t break the bank.

888 RC3 EVO Titanium V.2
888 RC3 EVO Titanium V.2 details:
- Travel: 200mm
- Left leg: RC3 EVO (Rebound piston V.2, low speed compression adjust, high speed compression shim stack valve, volume adjust)
- Right leg: Coil spring preload
- Spring: 1-side titanium
-Casting: Magnesium with 20mm axle
- Stanchion: 38mm nickel treatment tapered
- Steer tube: Aluminum
- Disc brake: 8” PM (max disc 230mm)
- Weight: 2990g 20mm axle included
- Options: Direct mount stem

We’re particularly proud of our DH flagship, the 888 RC3 EVO TITANIUM. And once you’ve tried it, you’ll know why. We’ve saved weight wherever we could and the result is the lightest coil DH fork in the market! The 888 RC3 EVO TI is only 200g heavier than the lightest air DH forks in the market while offering all the advantages of a coil: stability, reliability and durability and no stress. The upper crown comes with a direct mount feature. We listened closely to our pro riders on the World Cup circuit and were able to tweak our mountain bike forks to perfection with their help and feedback. Speaking of tweaking; the brand new compression piston of this particular fork comes with the option to change shims allowing you to customise your fork to suit your needs. You can really make this fork your own; not approximately, but precisely suited to your needs. For the freeriders among you, the 66 RC3 EVO TITANIUM also offers all these advantages with a suspension that is specifically tuned to your freeriding needs.

Another gem in our gravity world is the CR cartridge for the 888 and 66 mountain bike forks. Thanks to the compensation port, oil management inside your cartridge is more efficient than ever before and you need less oil. The cartridge performance offers a whole new dimension of performance in its category. The same goes for the tapered stanchions that come with these models and have only the exact amount of material they need – not one scrap more. Combined with the rebound and compression adjusters the CR can be serviced easily – even though it barely ever needs to. So whether it’s the RC3 EVO or CR damper, our gravity suspensions will always create the best riding experience for you when gravity calls!

Cobalt: cross country

since the introduction of the eggbeater pedal in 2002, crank brothers has been dedicated to the needs of cross country racers. the cobalt products show the newest selection of lightweight, high-performance pedals, wheelsets, seatposts and more. find your group of complimentary xc components, available in four different levels: 1, 2, 3, or 11. in terms of price and design features, level 1 gets you to the start line, and level 11 puts you on the podium. all are light, fast, and turn heads.

Iodine: all mountain

like the riders they’re designed for, the iodine product range is multi-talented. 5-7 inch travel bikes need unique components that are light enough for serious climbing, robust enough for fast, technical descents, and have the ability to last a long, long time. this is an important niche for crankbrothers; with the trails of laguna at our back door, we have our own staff to please.

Kicking Horse – Trail Crew Update 1

June 7 2011 No Commented

The straight goods on Kicking Horse Bike Park, straight from the trail crew’s fingertips.

Wow, did La Nina ever dump a lot of snow on our bike park last winter. This has meant three things: one, the melt out has been very slow this year; two, the sheer amount has played havoc with sections of trail; and three, wasn’t that some kind of ski season? Yes, it was, but now it is summer and starting June 10, we claim Kicking Horse for the Bike Park!

Ok, yes. Like the original, this was staged.

Ok, yes. Like the original, this was staged.

The snow has been reluctant to leave this beautiful valley this year. So for opening weekend that means only the trails below Catamount chair will be open. Bikers can, and probably should at least once, still ride the gondola and descend from the top – where the views alone make the ascent worthwhile – but you will be confined to the 10 Road until reaching the top of Catamount. That’s something like 6 km of dry (if not raining) road through a snow corridor. So for reduced riding you get a reduced price: $25 instead of regular $41.

The snow line as of June 6.

The snow line as of June 6.

So what will be available on the first weekend? We got off to a late start with trail maintenance due to the snow, but we only have to open the lower third of the mountain (usually at this time we open the lower two-thirds!). So we have been busy, and will remain so as the snow retreats.

Claim Jumper and Wild Rose:
The first is a favourite of the old-school, black single-track crowd, and the second is the bottom of the Western Cup race course. the bottom of CJ was the first trail we tackled. And we immediately had to shovel the white stuff. So Pioneer above will be closed, but these two runs will be as good as any time all season.

Lower Kranky Pants:
The snow snapped one bridge at the bottom which will need replacing, and made a gooey mess of a couple of sections. As for all the wet problems on our trails, we have added new drainage and the trails should be mostly dry by friday (unless the rain has other plans). Also we rerouted one of last year’s reroutes back to it original route. Not every fix is for the better.

Easy Rider:
Destroyed bridges and muck. We had a few challenges with this green run, but they are sorted now. We still have plans to further greenify this green circle run. But we seem to have misplaced the time. Please share if you find some.

Some of bridges didn't survive the winter. I don't think we can blame this one on La Nina. Perhaps it was an angry snowcat beast.

Dirt Jumps:
Sweeeet. Barely had to dress these at all, just had to style their hair a bit.

Buffalo Jump:
The last bridge on the mountain still decked with the crappy old end cuts snapped this winter. It will be replaced right quick.

Chain Reaction:
The super old half of the stunt park will be closed again this year while we hope to replace it. The not so super old half got a bit of a touch up.

Superberm:
The very bottom of this run will most likely get a complete rebuild this year due to winter slope grading. But for opening weekend at least the old finish will probably remain the same. But be cautious because there may be some differences. The upper sections got a lot of water damage and left Hobo shaking his head in dismay. But whimsical dreams of magical machinery money inspired us and we’ve put it back together for the time being.

LYM:
La Nina sat her big fat butt down hard on a couple of bridges which have left this trail unrideable. We’ll do our best to resurrect the fallen glory this weekend, but cannot make any promises.

What else, what else? There is the Western Cup coming in August which should be a pretty big deal. Go here for info: western-open.com/. Extended Play until 7:45 on Fridays begins June 24. Did I mention that the park is closed Mon-Thurs until June 24? It is. For all that sort of info go here: kickinghorseresort.com/mountain/activities/index-summer.aspx

As I don’t have any fresh video for you yet this season, I’ll throw in this li’l viddy from last fall’s final big bike park crew ride:

Welcome back to you and welcome back to us. Hope to see you up here. Ride on.
